I usually have a period for about a week while not on implanon but this is maybe my third period in 2 years. This one has lasted 9 days and I dont know if I need to possibly get it checked out.

Is it a real heavy flow? Forget about your normal cycle when you are on hormonal birth control. You have more to get rid of because you havent had a period every month. So if its not alot, its ok. If you should feel its alot of bleeding it wont hurt to call your doc and check ask about it.

It is a heavy flow. And its bright as well

Irregular bleeding patterns are very common with Implanon. It begins to secrete less hormone the longer it is in so in the last year of use, you may find that you have more periods and irregular bleeding. You only need to have it checked if it is extremely heavy Your body is just reacting to the reduction in hormone levels. This doesnt mean that it isnt effective anymore though. If you replace it on time, you will have enough hormone to avoid pregnancy.

Thank you. I also experienced pain in my ovaries when I had sex while on my period. It hurt very bad and Im thinking that it could be endometriosis. It runs in my family and theres a possibility I could have it

When To Have Nexplanon Inserted And Removed

Below is information about when Nexplanon is inserted and removed.

When to have Nexplanon inserted

Your doctor can insert Nexplanon once they have determined that you are not pregnant. However, the appropriate time to insert Nexplanon depends on several factors. These include whether you:

Nexplanon is a form of hormonal birth control. So, your doctor will likely insert your implant at a certain time during your period. This is because the levels of certain hormones in your body change during your period. And its important that Nexplanon is inserted at a certain time for it to be effective.

Specifically, your doctor will insert Nexplanon during the first 5 days of your period. If the implant is inserted after the fifth day, your doctor will recommend you use a form of nonhormonal birth control for 7 days. An example of nonhormonal birth control is a condom.

When to have Nexplanon removed

Nexplanon is effective for up to 3 years of use. You should have your Nexplanon implant replaced at least once every 3 years. Your doctor can help you keep track of when your implant needs to be removed.

If youd like to have your Nexplanon implant removed sooner than 3 years, talk with your doctor. They can safely remove the implant at any time.

Heavy Period After Nexplanon Removal

Apart from Nexplanon being an excellent contraception device, there are still some side effects associated with its use. Certainly, if your doctor suggests it, it is likely because he believes it has more benefits for you than risks. Undoubtedly, some women do not experience any adverse reactions to it. However, you should expect some mild side effects.

According to a study, irregularity in vaginal bleeding is the highly noticed side effect of the Nexplanon procedure. Certainly, your periods can be late or early, lighter or heavier, longer or shorter than normal. Also, you can experience some intermenstrual spotting. Particularly, it is more discovered in the few months of Nexplanon removal.

Although signs are mild, some may experience deadly complications after implant or removal. For instance, some women experience heavy bleeding with pain afterNexplanon removal and sudden weight gain or loss.

Anyhow, if you have prolonged or unusually heavy bleeding, you should seek medical attention and request some medication to restore the blood flow. Moreover, if you have missed two periods in a row, you must test for pregnancy.

What Is The Nexplanon Birth Control Arm Implantation Procedure Like

Your healthcare provider should discuss the insertion of the birth control implant in your arm with you beforehand. This is your opportunity to let them know if you have any questions or concerns about the implant procedure.

Your healthcare provider will first sterilize and apply a local anesthetic to the back of your upper arm. After checking that your arm feels numb, they will then use a special device that looks like one side of a stapler to insert the implant into your arm. This is placed right underneath the skin.

The whole process takes less than 30 minutes. Since your arm will be numb, the procedure will only hurt as much as the anesthetic injection. Afterwards, the area of your arm where the implant is will feel tender for a few days and may bruise for up to 2 to 3 weeks.

Indeed, Nexplanon and other progestins providing birth control affect the duration and intensity of menstruation flow. You may get heavier or lighter, longer or shorter periods, while on BC.

Fortunately, you can regulate your blood flow with some OTC and prescription medications. Such as an OTC, ibuprofen can be taken after 4 to 6 hours to lower the blood flow during periods.

Also, if you are thinking about adding a combination pill or patch, you may want to ask your doctor if a combination pill like Chatel or Microgestin can be prescribed for you.

Moreover, if you take a monophasic combined pill for a month, you will stop bleeding and have a regular period the following month.

Pregnancy Symptoms But Negative Test

If you feel the pregnancy symptoms while on Nexplanon, first take a pregnancy test to know whether you are actually pregnant or not. It might be a false positive or false-negative result. Generally, false positives are rare. False negatives are more prevalent. If you have pregnancy symptoms, but the test is negative, mostly there is no potentially serious reason behind it. Some of the reasons may be the following:

In Conclusion A Brief Note

As a whole, Nexplanon is an effective and most efficient birth control method that can prevent you from unexpected pregnancy for up to 5 years. No doubt, some side effects such as arm bruising, scars, unusual and irregular blood flow, spotting, vaginal discharge, nausea, and breast tenderness are frustrating. But the efficiency of the implant is worth the mild effect.

Indeed, most of the side effects go away on their own as the body adapts to the Nexplanon chemical release. Other effects go away when you remove the BC implant. Although the period after Nexplanon removal may be annoying, it will also be on track over time.

Light spotting, heavy periods, or constipation can occur after Nexplanon removal, so you should consult your healthcare provider if you have heavier than usual bleeding or any other unusual symptom.

Nexplanon Placed On back of arm : birthcontrol

Nexplanon, a well-known rod implanted in the body to prevent from being pregnant for up to five years. The size of Nexplanon would be equal to the size of a matchstick. Nexplanon works by releasing a small amount of progestin for about three years. The effect of Nexplanon decreases slowly and the release of progestin also reduces over time.

It is usually recommended to remove the implant after three years, as the dose of progestin is almost reduced. This birth control is inserted under the skin of the arm by experts to avoid risks. You will also be given an anesthetic injection to numb the particular area.

What Are The Risks Associated With The Implant And Who Should Avoid It

Being a progestogen only contraceptive method, the implant has the advantage of being able to be used in conditions where oestrogen needs to be avoided, including when someone is breastfeeding, and in the presence of cardiovascular risk factors. However, there are certain conditions where the implant is contraindicated, or better avoided due to the health risks it presents outweighing its benefits.

For example, the implant is not recommended if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding as the menstrual irregularities it causes may mask the symptoms of an underlying condition.9 You should also avoid the implant if you have breast cancer, as it can affect the prognosis due to the cancer being hormonally sensitive.10

Although there is no definitive evidence concluding that the implant increases the risk of blood clots, it is not recommended in those who have had a stroke, are at increased risk of having a stroke, or who have ischaemic heart disease.11

Progestogen is metabolised in the liver, so needs to be avoided in conditions with altered liver functions, such as severe cirrhosis and certain liver tumours, as the efficacy of the implant will be affected. Also, drugs which induce enzymes such as anti-epileptics, rifampicin, and griseofulvin may lead to lower progesterone concentration in the blood, causing contraceptive failure.

Negative Pregnancy Test But No Period After Nexplanon Removal

One epic event: Electric Forest returns after two years

Typically, women resume their ability to conceive as quickly as they remove the implant. Therefore, if you miss two periods in a row, there is a possibility that you are pregnant. But in some cases, women may have missed periods, but their pregnancy test reports are negative constantly.

It might be possible that you are not pregnant, but missed periods are due to delayed ovulation or high stress. Moreover, women dealing with PCOS, sudden weight change, and aging may miss their periods.

On the other hand, there are equal chances of getting pregnant, but your reports give false-negative reports. It often happens when you use an expired or faculty pregnancy kit or do not follow the instructions correctly.

Also, there is the possibility of an ectopic or cryptic pregnancy, which will give you a false negative pregnancy result.

Therefore, if you are confused about whether you are pregnant or not because of your missed periods, it is always best to talk with your health provider.
