Hi I kind of have the same problem. I am hardly ever late on my period and if I am it is at most 2 days late but it starts up right away. I am 5 days late now and just started having “period like cramps” but they are not as bad as usual. Most of the time I can’t control how I react to them because I usually roll around trying to sleep and complain a whole lot and in a lot of pain. But these cramps I can control but I also feels like I am being pulled apart on the inside. My hips feel like they hurt and it hurts all into my upper thighs where my legs connect to my butt. I have been wearing a pad and there is only a little light pink blood on the pad and when I sat down to go to the bathroom, I had light pink brown spotting/clots come out. Then it happened one more time with the clots and everything and now everytime I go to the bathroom a limited amount of clots come out then they stop and none of it comes out onto my pad when usually you can’t control your period and it comes out on its own. It doesn’t do that for me it only comes out when I pee. My boobs are also very sore but I don’t think they have grown any I guess considering I was/am only 5 days late but I am still very confused.. I have not taken a HPT and I am not TTC so I’m just curious if this is a sign of pregnancy or something more serious or is it my period???

Will A Pregnancy Test Work 4 Days After A Missed Period

A pregnancy test works on the principle of detecting a hormone in your urine called human chorionic gonadotrophin. This hormone is produced as a result of the implantation of the embryo in early pregnancy. The production of this hormone usually starts one week after zygote formation.

Most doctors and medical professionals suggest that the best or most accurate pregnancy test result is obtained on the first day of a missed period, and during the morning when urine is moderately concentrated. Human chorionic gonadotrophin can be easily detected at this time. You can also wait until day five or six of a missed period to take a pregnancy test. This will eliminate the chance of false-negative pregnancy test results to a large extent. Also, since many women experience irregular menstrual cycles, it is generally suggested to take a test two weeks after unprotected sex to be sure.

So, in a nutshell, yes, a pregnancy test will work after four days of a missed period and it should be an accurate test since levels of human chorionic gonadotrophins will be high during this time if you are pregnant. However, it is worth noting that if your test reveals a negative result but you continue to experience early pregnancy symptoms, you should request a clinical pregnancy test from your doctor to rule out any confusion.

What Is A Late Period

I have been spotting for 5 days and no period ...

If your period is late or youre wondering if youre pregnant, the days can tick by rather slowly. How long do you have to wait before taking a pregnancy test? The instructions on home pregnancy tests often talk about your missed period. What do they mean?

In the world of pregnancy testing, a missed period means you expected your menstrual bleeding to have started yesterday, and it still has not started. The day of your expected period depends on what your normal menstrual cycle looks like and when your last period started.

The menstrual cycle is the time from the first day of your period to the day before your next period starts. The average cycle is 28 days, with a pattern that looks something like this:

Some womens menstrual cycles last the same number of days every month. These women can accurately predict the day their period will start. Other women have a menstrual cycle that is a little different each month. Your period is still considered regular as long as it comes every 24 to 38 days.

What Is Considered Late For A Period

All womens cycles vary, so its hard to define what is normal and not normal. But if youre wondering why is my period late, generally speaking, medical professionals say:

  • A period is considered late if it hasnt started five or more days after the day you expected it to start.
  • A period is considered missed if you havent had menstrual flow for 6 or more weeks after the start of your last period.

How Long Is It Normal For A Period To Be Late

Your menstrual cycle can vary in length depending on a number of factors, such as stress, diet or whether you have started taking a new contraceptive method. Your period can vary from month to month by about 7 to 9 days. This is perfectly normal for most women and a variation in the start date of your period doesnt necessarily mean that your period is late. To find out more about why your period is late click here.

A person should see a doctor if they miss more than two periods.

Sometimes, a slight change in hormones can cause changes in the natural menstrual cycle. This is not typically a cause for concern.

At other times, symptoms such as a missed period and gassy stomach may be signs of a more serious condition that needs treatment.

If symptoms continue or get worse, a person should visit their doctor. Likewise, anyone who misses more than two periods should see a doctor for a diagnosis.

Anyone experiencing the following symptoms, along with signs of ectopic pregnancy or other potentially serious issues, should see a doctor immediately:

  • pain in the lower pelvis
  • abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as dark-colored blood

Pregnancy Symptoms Before Missed Period

As stated above, some women can sense that they’re pregnant before a missed period due to some early symptoms, usually 1-2 weeks following the missed period Those symptoms are usually pregnancy fatigue, constipation, increase in breast size and sensitivity, and frequent urination.

Some symptoms can actually be signs of an upcoming period, though. Many women experience breast changes before a period, along with some bloating of the stomach. On their own, they may not be signs of pregnancy but instead signs of impending menstruation.

Another very early sign of pregnancy may be implantation bleeding, which some may confuse with an early period. Implantation bleeding can occur when the fertilized egg burrows into the lining of the uterus, a week or so before the next expected period. It’s usually light spotting and does not last long. Fewer than half of all pregnant women experience implantation bleeding.

If you are experiencing some of these early signs of pregnancy, it would be wise to wait until you miss your period to begin taking pregnancy tests. It will give your hCG levels a chance to build up in your system to be detected by the tests. Despite how early some pregnancy tests say they will detect pregnancy, it’s best to wait so that you are not wasting money taking multiple tests.

How Accurate Is The Pregnancy Test

It is important to know that whilst a positive result is likely to be accurate, a negative result may be misleading. Some women have a negative result and test again a week later to find that it is positive.

This is due to the levels of pregnancy hormone gradually building up to a level at which they can be detected. If you test yourself very early on and you have a negative result, you should carry out another test in 2-3 days time if you have still not had a period.

If you continue to get negative results and still no period, you should consult your doctor.
