How To Protect Your Bed
Protect your bed by buying underpads to use on top of your linen to protect them from getting soaked with urine. You can choose between adhesive underpads that have sticky edges or bottoms to keep the underpad in place or winged underpads that are tucked underneath the mattress. The latter is more reliable.
The linen you use should also be super absorbent in case the pads leak, to prevent urine from soaking your mattress.
Sure you can also wash sheets but it is much more of a headache to get the urine smell out of a mattress. For extra protection, you can wear an incontinence pad or panty to bed. If you have heavy leaks, you can wear a diaper instead.

Why Underwear Fit Counts
Between sucking up your blood, leaving you dry, and stopping liquid from leaking onto your clothes, period panties are doing a lot of things at once.
That’s why it’s important you get the right size for you.
They need to be relatively snug to prevent any side-leg leakage. Of course, if you choose a too-tight pair, they could be uncomfortable and less able to deal with a heavy flow.

They Disregard The Flood Zone
Thinx really mastered the art of creating a beautiful video to showcase the absorbing properties of their underwear. So much so that you get all caught up in the Zen background and the lovely music so you dont notice the glaring flaw in the demonstration.
They gracefully poured the water UP AND DOWN the crotch area.
Lets be real. When you have some leakage down there, its not like youre going to be moving the crotch of your underwear up and down to evenly distribute said leakage along the absorbing liner. Instead, the bulk of the output is going to hit ONE spot.
Enter the flood zone.
The flood zone is the area where the liquid hits the fabric. This is NOT the whole crotch area.
For example, when you experience a little bladder leakage, its going to land more to the front of the item. If this area cant absorb the quantity of liquid it needs to absorb, then you will have leaks.
Basically what happens is that the moisture hits the absorbing layer in one area. Then, as the layer absorbs, the moisture eventually gets wicked further along the absorbing layer.
For example, when I would cloth diaper my kids, I would notice that the front half of their pocket diaper inserts would be completely saturated and start leaking at the legs even though the back part of the inserts were barely damp.
If too much moisture gets concentrated in one area of the absorption layer, well, hello leaks!
If its more like sneeze/cough = small waterfall, then youre in a whole different ball game.

From the chart above it is clear that sanitary pads are designed specifically for blood and incontinence pads arent, however, the incontinence pads for women do seem to be somewhat effective for blood absorption. Heres what people who have tried it report**:
the results are that they do actually work. You can use a bladder protection pad in place of an actual period pad. However, it does soak in differently. Period fluid doesnt get absorbed into the urine pad as well as it would a regular one. Its a lot slower. But other than that, it worked just the same!
I have tried incontinence pads and they dont absorb the blood and when I use menstrual pads a couple of coughs and Ive wet my underwear.
