Tips For Helping Your Daughter Track Her Period With A Calendar
First, buy your daughter a small monthly calendar, one that’s tiny enough to carry in her backpack or fit into a small side table drawer. Instruct her to use the calendar just for the purpose of figuring out her monthly cycle. Her commitments, tests, sleepover parties, and other events can go on the family calendar or another calendar she keeps for herself.
If your daughter is allowed to use a mobile device, you might also try introducing her to one of the many period tracking apps available, such as Flo.
To track period dates, instruct your daughter to put an “X” or another mark on the first date of her cycle. Mark every additional day she experiences menstrual bleeding.
Repeat the process the following month. Then count the number of days between each month’s first day of flow. The result is your daughter’s monthly cycle. It may take several months of tracking to get a firm handle on your daughter’s menstrual cycle, and some girls routinely experience irregular periods. But by keeping track of her period, your tween may better predict when her flow will begin and take the steps needed to prepare for it.
Helping your daughter understand her cycle and track her menstrual cycle is an easy way to increase her self-confidence and make her feel more in control of her changing body.

Should I Use A Pad Tampon Or Menstrual Cup
You have many choices about how to deal with period blood. You may need to experiment a bit to find which works best for you. Some girls use only one method and others switch between different methods.
- Most girls use pads when they first get their period. Pads are made of cotton and come in lots of different sizes and shapes. They have sticky strips that attach to the underwear.
- Many girls find tampons more convenient than pads, especially when playing sports or swimming. A tampon is a cotton plug that a girl puts into her vagina. Most tampons come with an applicator that guides the tampon into place. The tampon absorbs the blood. Don’t leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours because this can increase your risk of a serious infection called toxic shock syndrome.
- Some girls prefer a menstrual cup. Most menstrual cups are made of silicone. To use a menstrual cup, a girl inserts it into her vagina. It holds the blood until she empties it.

What Are Regular Periods
Most girls get their first period between the ages of 10 and 15, but some get it earlier and some later. The first period is known as menarche .
A girl’s monthly cycle is the number of days from the start of her period to the start of the next time she gets her period. You often hear this is a 28-day cycle. But 28 is just an average figure that doctors use. Cycle lengths vary some are 24 days, some are 34 days. And a girl may notice that her cycles are different lengths each month especially for the few years after she first starts getting her period.
Early in a girl’s cycle, her ovaries start preparing one egg. At the same time, the lining of the uterus becomes thick to prepare a nesting place for a fertilized egg in the event that the girl becomes pregnant.
About 2 weeks before a girl gets her period, the egg is released from the ovary . The egg travels through the fallopian tube into the uterus. If the egg isn’t fertilized by sperm, it starts to fall apart. Then the lining and egg leave a girl’s body as her period and the whole thing starts all over again that’s why we use the word “cycle.” The first day a girl’s period comes is Day 1 of her cycle.
It’s also normal for the number of days a girl has her period to vary. Sometimes a girl may bleed for 2 days, sometimes it may last a week. That’s because the level of hormones the body makes can be different from one cycle to the next, and this affects the amount and length of bleeding.

Should I Watch For Any Problems
Most girls don’t have any problems with their periods. But call your doctor if you:
- are 15 and haven’t started your period
- have had your period for more than 2 years and it still doesn’t come regularly
- have bleeding between periods
- have severe cramps that don’t get better with ibuprofen or naproxen
- have very heavy bleeding
- have periods that last more than about a week
- have severe PMS that gets in the way of your everyday activities
Why Do We Need To Use Period Trackers
Tracking your periods has loads of benefits. When girls get their first periods, they may be confused about their exact cycle dates. In turn, this can lead to stress or make them feel uneasy. Below are some of the benefits of using period trackers for teens.
- Allows Your Daughter to Learn Their Cycle Patterns
A period tracker will help you determine whether you have a normal or abnormal cycle. A cycle refers to the number of days between when you experience your period up to the day you will have your next period.
- Helps Girls To Find Their Normal
Period trackers for teens help girls to learn about their normal body reactions. They allow you to time your cycle to the exact hour. A period tracker is useful in keeping track of when your periods will start and how long they last. Having an idea of how your body behaves every month is important to help you plan for upcoming activities.
- Help You Determine Your Fertility
If you want to know whether you are fertile, check your menstrual cycle pattern. Period tracking apps will tell you the exact day you are likely to start ovulation. In turn, this gives you an indication of your fertile and safe days.

Period Tracker Apps For 10 Year Old
Hi,My 10 year old has started her periods. Are there any recommended apps she can use to track her period to get her use to monitoring it? I seen quite a few but would rather use one recommended by other young girls.
I’m not sure there’s one used for that particular market. She’s likely to be irregular for several years yet and I’d have felt weird tracking it at that age.If she wants one that isn’t all flowery and pink then Clue could work.
iPhone or Android? Or other?iPhones have it built into the Health app now. Browse button, Cycle Tracking if it’s not already on the front page.
Both DD and i use period tracker, you can turn off the TTC and just use for periods. My DDs have been pretty regular from the start but she also tracks moods as it helps her understand her emotions a bit more.
I got my first period when I was 9 and they were pretty much regular straight away, I started using Period Tracker to track mine when I was about 12. I would also recommend Flo – I use this one now and find it to be more accurate when predicting my periodI think it’s great she wants to track them, it’s good getting to know your body from a young age, knowing roughly when they’re expected to come will help her with making plans etc as well as I was always worried about making plans and my period starting being so young when they started!
