Are There Any Side Effects Or Risks To Consider
You may experience temporary redness, irritation, and itching immediately after your sugaring session.
These side effects are pretty common, but remember to resist the temptation to itch. This could create tears or scarring in the skin.
If your skin is very sensitive, you may also develop bumps or rashes wherever the paste was applied.
All that said, sugaring typically produces fewer side effects than waxing.
Although sugaring is a fairly safe method of hair removal, its not for everyone. Its important to consider the following situations.
Does A Brazilian Wax Hurt
Brazilian waxes will hurt. Also, you will be laying on a table with your private parts exposed to a stranger, so be prepared for that and accept that the whole process can be awkward.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let me fill you in on something: the whole process really isn’t all that bad. Any type of waxing will hurt because your hair will get pulled out by its roots, but it won’t be so bad that tears will stream down your face. You’ll definitely be able to walk afterwards. Yes, there are some horror stories, but those are exceptions, not the norm.
When thinking about whether or not you can handle a wax, just think about how much pain you can tolerate. Have you ever had any other kinds of waxes before? What about other painful beauty practices like getting piercings or tattoos? What did you think of the pain associated with those procedures?
When you figure that sort of thing out, talk to the esthetician when you walk in. You should also let them know if you are ticklish on your thighs or if you have a serious fear of your skin ripping off. They will most likely provide some information that will help you calm down.
Can You Get Waxed If Youre On Your Period
If youre on your period, you may want to consider rescheduling your appointment. When youre menstruating, the skin around your pubic bone becomes a little more sensitive and youre more prone to cramping.
If youre still down to get waxed, make sure you wear a tampon or reusable cup to your appointment. Most professionals wont wax if youre using a pad or free flowing.

Waxing On Your Period
Whether you let it grow, get a Brazilian wax or shave it into a nice little flower, what you choose to do with your pubic hair is entirely your choice. But if waxing is your thing, you mayve heard that you should never get waxed during your period. Were here to debunk this myth and tell you that youre good to go you can get waxed on your period.
You Should Wear Comfy Clothes
Your nether regions will feel sore and swollen right after getting a Brazilian wax, so you need to make sure that you’re wearing extra comfy clothes that will lessen the feeling. Now is not the time to wear those lacy panties and skinny jeans. Instead, think cotton undies, skirts, and loose sweats, especially if you’re planning to do errands the rest of the day.
Also, if you are just going to get a bikini wax, you might be asked to don some underwear to serve as a guide for how much hair will be removed. Use old panties rather than your favorite ones because the wax will surely cling to it.

Brazilian Wax: What To Expect And How To Prepare
I’m a polyglot who does parkour and dreams of being a chef. I have varied interests and I like to talk, give advice, & share my opinions.
I’ve been getting Brazilian waxes for over four years now, so I’ve seen it all. I’ve been a nervous first-timer, I’ve been waxed by bad estheticians, I’ve changed spas, and I’ve also had really great waxes.
When I was new to the waxing process and looking for information about what to expect, I found that there wasn’t a lot out of information out there. I hope that sharing my experience and expertise will help people who are interested in getting waxed.
Myth #: You Should Take Meds To Help It Hurt Less
Definitely not. We really do need to know your medical history and current medications.
Some conditions, medications, and supplements make waxing unsafe or riskier because they cause thinning skin, easy bruising or bleeding, heat sensitivity, or other relevant side effects. There’s nothing more horrifying than waxing someone’s skin off because they didn’t tell you they’re taking Accutane.
We don’t want to hurt you, and we definitely don’t want to traumatize you. Even if you think it’s irrelevant, be forthcoming. Better safe than sorry.

You Have To Grow Your Hair First
In order for a Brazilian wax to work, you have to make sure that your pubic hair is, at least, a quarter of an inch longâabout the size of a grain of rice. Trimming your hair too short means that the wax will have little to nothing to grab onto, so it’s not really going to remove those tiny hairs.
That being said, avoid shaving or trimming your pubic hair at least five days before your Brazilian wax appointment. Make sure that you plan this ahead of time so that you’re surely bikini ready for your next beach trip.
How To Prepare For A Bikini Wax
Youre in control of your service. Double-check with your technician to ensure that you both are on the same page on how you want your bikini wax to look. Tell them your preferences of where and how much hair you want to be removed or left. This way, they can adjust the style to make it your own.
Plan on exfoliating before your wax? Petak says to make sure to use a film-free exfoliant that rinses clean off the skin rather than leaving it coated in oil 24 to 48 hours before your wax. She recommends European Wax Centers exfoliating gel its non-abrasive and contains their exclusive Comfort Blend to help calm, nourish, and restore skin.
As far as length goes, Petak recommends that your hair is at least one-quarter inch longabout the size of a sprinkle. Its a good idea to stop shaving at least five days before your waxing reservation, Petak says.
Its better to arrive at your waxing appointment with hair that is too long, rather than hair that is too short. Those that are unsure about their hair length should wait a bit longer. The worst-case scenario is that your spa trims down the hair before your session.

What Is Brazilian Wax Etiquette
Basic Brazilian wax etiquette may seem like common sense for one person but a complete surprise to another. Things like cleaning up before the appointment, not coming in straight from the gym, not having one too many cocktails before waxing, and others are ways clients can keep the experience for themselves and their estheticians a pleasant one.
Lets break these down.

Can You Get A Brazilian Wax During Your Menstrual Cycle
Now, to answer one of the most controversial questions when it comes to hair removal can you get a Brazilian wax on your period?
Ive heard a few things about this and personally addressed clients with this concerns and the answer might surprise you. It is one of the most asked question even for our existing clients.
Even with a period, you CAN definitely go on with your appointment and have a Brazilian wax. Theres nothing wrong with that. In fact, we get many clients who have had bikini wax even during their menstruation. Look we are all women here, its natural and that just it.
Some women might hesitate because of shyness, and we understand why. But the thing is, this is normal and youre handled by incensed estheticians. All you need to do is wear a tampon and we can work things as usual. Also makes sure you keep yourself clean before you come in. We always offer baby wipes to freshen up.
Meanwhile, there are those who want to skip hair waxing because of the increased pain they may get when they have a period. This is because the body and the skin is in an inflammatory state during this time, thus the increased sensitivity. However, this hasnt proven yet so if youre up for an adventure and doesnt mind the extra pain you get, then this should not be an issue.

Youve Got Plenty Of Options
You dont have to go totally bare, as there are tons of bikini wax styles to chose from. You can get just the sides and the top cleaned up , you can get everything but a small landing strip of hair or a triangle in front , or you can get everythingtop, sides, and backremoved . If youre not sure which you want to start with, dont be afraid to ask your technician. Its only awkward for them if you dont like the end result.
Trim Before You Come In
Your pubic hair needs to be long enough to wax , but if it’s too long it’s going to become a matted, painful mess. If we have to spend time trimming it for you, you’ll find out why we put the phrase “and up” on our waxing service pricing.
Use a beard trimmer and get things in order before you get on the table.

What Is A Brazilian Wax Exactly
Theres a bikini wax, where hair on the sides and top area along the bikini line are removed, and then theres a Brazilian, which leaves your entire pubic area bare . A Brazilian wax removes all the hair from your bikini area , and those hard-to-reach areas in the back. Simply put: everything goes. You can opt to leave a landing strip or a triangle, choice is up to you.
Things Every Brazilian Waxer Wishes You Would Stop Doing
Have you ever imagined what it’s like being thisclose to vaginas all dayno, not like that sadlyyou know, for work? The life of a Brazilian waxer is never dull! In fact, sometimes it’s downright disgusting. Let’s just say Ive had more than a few projectiles fly at my face during my 9-to-5. You’d be surprised at what goes on behind the closed doors of an estheticians room.
Want to help alleviate my torture? Here are 5 tips that ever waxer hopes you’ll heed before heading into the salon:
1. Shower before your appointment. I am not saying womens lady bits smell bad, but showering before your appointment is the considerate thing to do. There have been occasions when people come to me directly after horseback riding as well as a long-distance bike ride and because of this, the molecules in the room change once your pants are off. Its just a fact.
2. Please use the handi-wipes in the estheticians room prior to your appointment for a quick clean upregardless if you feel like you need to or notjust do it. Handi-wipes are to be used for your vagina and most importantlyyour other hole. Wipe front to back and use as many as you wanttrust mewe have more! There have been far too many appointments that have resulted in someone unknowingly giving me the stink-eye because they didnt take advantage of the magical wipes on the counter. These are the moments that define your estheticians poker face.
Please and thank you. Happy waxing!

Look Up A Place Online
My second suggestion is to search for spas online and read customer reviews. Most spas have a website with a page that says “meet the staff” or something similar. Research the facility, its staff, its prices, and its list of services.
Find their head esthetician and see what kind of experience they haveâhaving a lot of experience is a good sign. Also, note that I keep using the word “esthetician,” which is the title of someone who went to school to learn how to care for skin and hair. You’ll want to go to someone with that title to get the best quality of service and expertise.
As far as online reviews, you should take them with a grain of salt. One horrible review could mean that either the reviewer or the esthetician was having an off day. On the other hand, a great review could be from a friend of the esthetician. It’s best to find a spot that has both a lot of stars and a lot of reviews.
Since spas also have other services, there may not be any reviews that are specifically about waxing, but don’t be discouraged if that’s the case. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything one way or the other. Like I said, a lot of stars and a lot of reviews in general are still a good thing when determining whether or not to patronize a spa. Also, not every spa has a website. In that case, it’s up to you to decide if you want to give it a shot or not.
What Happens During The Appointment
Your technician should make you feel comfortable during the process. Heres what you can expect:
- Undress and get on the table. If youre wearing a dress, they might just ask you to lift it up. Dont be shy, your technician is a professional, and theyve seen it all before!
- Prior to the sugaring, communicate any preferences on what you do or do not want sugared. This is especially true if youre looking for a Brazilian style.
- To start, the technician will cleanse the area.
- Before applying the paste, theyll usually apply powder to protect and make hairs stand out.
- To apply the sugaring paste, the technician will use a single ball of paste, applying it against the grain of hair growth and then lightly tugging in the opposite direction.
- After the sugaring is complete, the technician will apply a serum or rejuvenating oil to hydrate, soothe, and help prevent ingrown hairs.
Remember: Tip at least 20 percent. Most technicians live off their tips!

Yes, its a kindness to your waxer that you arrive fresh and cleansed, but it will also help your wax go more smoothly. Natural oils, sweat, or body lotions can prohibit wax from adhering as well. Come in tidy, like brushing your teeth before a dental exam, but more along the lines of prepping for your annual exam at the gynecologist, says Tummala. At Shobha, we have rosewater freshening cloths in the room just in case. She notes that the drier the area is, the better the wax will adhere and the better the results will be. If you know youre a sweater when it comes to physical activity, most likely youll sweat in your bikini area as well, she explains. Wiping the area of other naturaland completely normalbodily fluids like discharge is appreciated as well.
