You Were Recently Vaccinated
If you have recently received a vaccination or immunization, you may be required to wait for a period of time before being eligible to donate blood. The major exceptions are the Smallpox vaccination andliving in close proximity of someone who receives the Smallpox vaccination. It is requested that you wait 8 weeks after receiving a Smallpox vaccine or after living in close proximity to someone who received the Smallpox vaccine before donating blood. This waiting period should be extended if you experience complications.
COVID-19 vaccination restrictions are, at the time of writing, still subject to change. However, at the present moment, the ACR states that blood donations are Acceptable if you were vaccinated with an Inactivated or RNA based COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Moderna or Pfizer providing you are symptom-free and fever-free. If you received a different type of COVID-19 vaccine or are unsure what type of vaccine you received, you may be subject to a waiting period before you are eligible to donate blood.

Are There Any Risks To Donating Blood During The Coronavirus Pandemic
Blood collection agencies have taken several steps to ensure both employees and donors are safe during the donation process. All employees involved in blood collection are self-monitoring their temperatures daily, says Dr. Sanford. Agencies have increased the distance between donors to ensure the required 6-foot distance is complied with. Some blood collection agencies are also requiring their employees to wear marks during the process, since it requires close contact.
Strict safety protocols were followed at the American Red Cross blood drive at L.A. Care Health Plan in late March, says Dr. Seidman. In addition to their normal use of gloves and wiping down areas touched by donors, all equipment underwent enhanced disinfecting. The blood drive was held in a large conference room, and only five donors were allowed in at any given time, ensuring plenty of space to accommodate the six foot guidelines. Staff also checked the temperature of everyone coming in to donate to protect against any possibility that someone might be infected and pass the virus on to others.

A Quick Note On The Different Types Of Blood Donation
Today, there are several different types of blood donation. For example, The American Red Cross has four different donation categories that are split up depending on the blood components taken:
- Whole Blood: White blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma all donated
- Power Red: 2 units of red blood cells donated platelets and plasma returned to your bloodstream
- Platelet donation: Only platelets extracted donated other blood components are returned to bloodstream
- Plasma donation: Only plasma extracted and donated other blood components are returned to bloodstream
If you intend to take advantage of a blood donation type other than whole blood donation, keep in mind that these donations may be subject to additional restrictions and rules.

How Many Days After Menstruation Can One Take Their Urine Drug Test
Usually, during menstruation periods, blood leaks can happen from 3-7 days. After the leak days, you can take a urine drug test. If your drug test appointment falls on the same day as your menstruation cycle, you can try to postpone the test date by reaching the technician and rescheduling it.
If it’s not accepted, you can provide the sample. Menstruation does not affect the drug test results directly. But there is a higher chance of the samples getting contaminated with the blood leak. Your sample may get rejected in the visual test .
It is not a good idea not to attend your drug test during menstruation because some companies may fail you on a drug test if you don’t show up. Most of the companies will get confirmations beforehand regarding the dates of your drug test. You can plan accordingly. What Does The Term Donor Deferral Mean

Individuals disqualified from donating blood are known as “deferred” donors. A prospective donor may be deferred at any point during the collection and testing process. Whether or not a person is deferred temporarily or permanently will depend on the specific reason for disqualification . If a person is to be deferred, his or her name is entered into a list of deferred donors maintained by the blood center, often known as the “deferral registry.”If a deferred donor attempts to give blood before the end of the deferral period, the donor will nt be accepted for donation. Once the reason for the deferral no longer exists and the temporary deferral period has lapsed, the donor may return to the blood and be re-entered into the system.
Those who may be deferred include:
- Anyone who has ever used intravenous drugs
- Men who have had sexual contact with other men
- Anyone who has ever received clotting factor concentrates
- Anyone with a positive test for HIV
- Men and woman who have engaged in sex for money or drugs
- Anyone who has had hepatitis
- Anyone who has taken Tegison for psoriasis
- Anyone who has risk factors for vCJD

Other Tests Or Investigations
- You are unable to give blood until you have received your test results from your doctor or nurse.
- This includes if you have been required to take a Covid-19 test and haven’t had your result yet

Can You Donate Blood If You Have Tattoos
The FDA has also relaxed rules regarding tattoos and piercings to help boost the nations blood supply. Previously, if your tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities , you had to wait 12 months before donating blood. However, the change to this rule means the waiting period is now three months.
The American Red Cross says a tattoo is acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile needles and ink that is not reused.

How Long Does The Donation Take
The procedure, which is performed by a trained, skilled health-care professional, takes approximately 30 minutes. You will give about 450 ml of blood, after which you will be advised to remain on the donor bed for a few minutes longer and then to take some refreshments. Plan to spend about half an hour to an hour at the blood donor centre for the entire process, depending on the size of the centre and the number of donors.

No. Each unit of whole blood normally is separated into several components. Platelets are important in the control of bleeding and are generally used in patients with leukemia and other forms of cancer. Platelets are stored at room temeperature and may be kept for a maximum of five days. Granulocytes are sometimes are used to fight infections, although their efficacy is not well established. They must be transfused within 24 hours of donation.
