Menopause. I think the first time I was aware was about when I was about 51, 52. 51 probably. When my periods started to not be as regular as they were. Now you could set a clock by my periods. Okay. Twenty eight days more or less to the hour, almost to the minute I mean it was amazing, and just as regular as clockwork. And they started to not be the regular twenty eight. And there were delays, the period extended. So I knew that this was the start of the menopause because Id been so incredibly regular for so many years.

What Causes Changes To Your Periods
Falling oestrogen levels will affect the monthly cycle so your periods can become light, heavy, long, short, late, early or missing, and in any combination! You can get one set of symptoms then a few months later something completely different can happen.
Confusing? Absolutely! And it is also impossible to tell which ones you will get or how long all this will last!
But, hopefully I can shed a little light on what might be going on.
The average age for this chaos to start is 45-55 but some women can start earlier, especially if other close female relatives started around the same age. Ethnic origin, smoking, obesity and certain chronic health issues may mean an earlier menopause too.

Menopause is defined as taking place 1 year after a woman’s last period. Once you have had a consecutive 12 months with no period you are officially declared to be in the menopause – congratulations! Analysing three consecutive cycles in each pair, the research found the vast majority 273 pairs had a greater difference in period start dates at the end of the study than at the beginning. In other words, menstrual syncing is a myth up there with periods being tied to the waxing and waning of the moon. Not only that, womens menstrual cycles are more likely to diverge than come together over time.

Modern Studies On Menstrual Synchrony
A 1992 study corrected statistical errors in McClintock’s original study and follow-up studies.
The study found that all the previous studies had several errors that led to biased results the researcher concluded these biases tainted the findings, leading to higher-than-expected frequencies of menstrual synchrony. The later study concluded that there wasn’t any significant menstrual synchrony impacting the onset of menses or the length of the period.
A study by Morofushi and colleagues in 2000 enlisted 64 Japanese women who lived in a dormitory. Twenty-four of the young women synchronized with their roommates in three months. Researchers concluded that the change in menstrual timing was triggered by the ability to smell 5 alpha-androstenol. Interestingly, for women who did experience synchrony, all members changed their cycles to share the same time of flow.
