The very first day of when your period starts is the first day of your cycle. For a 28-day cycle, you should expect ovulation to happen between day 12 and 17. You will notice certain changes in your body during this time. In a 35-day cycle, the signs of ovulation may appear around day 20 or later. You will experience certain symptoms when you ovulate, which is extremely helpful if your period is irregular. For instance:
- You will notice cervical mucus becoming very thin, slippery, and clear like egg whites. If you take some of it on your fingers, it will stretch.
- You may also notice lower abdominal pain by the time you ovulate. It is usually nothing more than a twinge in the lower abdomen. Some women even experience a backache by the same time.
- Your basal body temperature will increase by 0.4-1.0°F after ovulation.

Studies have found that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days. During this period, it can randomly come in contact with the female egg to cause pregnancy. Even though there are various birth control methods available like pills, spermicidal creams, condoms, cervical caps, to name a few, none of them is full proof. These methods minimise the chances of getting pregnant.
Can I Have Sex During My Period
Yes, you can have sex while you are have your period. However, sex during your period does not eliminate the chance of becoming pregnant. You must use protection if you do not wish to get pregnant. Sex during your period will also not protect you from getting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases . Some studies suggest that there may be higher chances of passing these diseases if you have unprotected sex during your period. Yeast infections are quite common after unprotected sex during your period. You must use a condom while you have sex during your period to protect yourself against STDs and pregnancy. If you are wearing a tampon during your period, make sure you remove it before you have sex. Sexual intercourse may push the tampon up further and you may need medical help to remove it.
An advantage of having sex during your period is that an orgasm could provide relief from menstrual cramps. Besides, period blood can also act as a natural lubricant allowing more comfortable intercourse.

Common Signs Of A Successful Fertilization
Here are the common signs and symptoms that you may experience after conception :
- You may notice light spotting or implantation spotting around 6 to 12 days after fertilization.
- The breasts may feel heavier, fuller, or swollen and tender to touch. The areola may also darken.
- There is extreme tiredness due to a change in the progesterone levels.
- The most prominent sign of pregnancy is missing your periods.
- You tend to urinate more frequently than before.
- You may feel nauseated.
- You develop a craving for various foods that include the ones you never liked before.
- Be prepared for mood swings.
Although these signs indicate towards a pregnancy, you can confirm it only through a home pregnancy test.

Can You Get Pregnant After Your Period
Yes, there is a possibility.
The phase after the menstrual cycle is when you move into fertility.
For a menstrual cycle of 28-30 days, the ovulation starts somewhere between 14th and 17th day. Although the chances of getting pregnant immediately after your period are minimal, it is not impossible.
Let us understand this with an example. If you have a 28-day cycle, the fertility window will be open from days 9 to 14. As we have mentioned earlier, the sperm can live for up to six days in the reproductive tract.
Now, lets assume that your period gets over by the sixth day and you have intercourse in the next five days. The sperm might stay in the fallopian tube for the next six days and if you ovulate on the 14th day, the egg can get fertilized and you might become pregnant. This indicates that you can still get pregnant just after your periods.
However, if your period stops early , there is a long time for ovulation to happen, and thus you may not have any chances of getting pregnant.
In the case of shorter cycles , the ovulation will happen around the 10th day. So, if your bleeding stops after five days and you have sex on the last day of bleeding, you may get pregnant.
For longer cycles , you might ovulate on the 18th day. In this case, if your bleeding stops after five days, then you have a safe window as there is time for ovulation to begin.

Can I Ovulate Without Having Periods
Yes, in some cases a woman can ovulate without having periods or by having light periods. This happens if the woman has had a uterine scarring. A C-section, any reproductive disease or a D& C procedure causes the scarring of the uterus, thus restricting the normal thickening of the uterus lining, which typically happens after the process of ovulation . In such case, you may ovulate but not have period.
Exceptions: When You Can Get Pregnant Right Before Your Period
1.If what you think is a period isnt actually a period. Its possible to mistake your period for ovulation bleeding, especially if it comes with period-like symptoms. Should you mistake an ovulation bleed for a period, right before your period overlaps with your fertile window, and the likelihood of getting pregnant is quite high.
2.If you have a long fertile window. Ovulation typically occurs around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle, but everyones cycle is different. One study found that most women reach their fertile window earlier and others much later than day 14.
Its rare, but you may have a uniquely long, or uniquely late-arriving fertile window. This can occur naturally, or be a result of stress, medications, thyroid disorders, or other conditions. No matter when it occurs, ovulation always presents the possibility of getting pregnant, even if very late in your cycle.
Just note that after fertilization, the egg still needs to be implanted into the uterine wall. That can take a week or more. If you fertilize an egg during a fertile window that is very close to your period, the odds of a failed implantation increase because the uterine lining is shed during your period, potentially shedding the fertilized egg along with it.
