What To Do To Not Get Your Period

Assume That It Is An Excuse To Be Mean

Period LIFE HACKS | How To Lose Weight When On YOUR PERIOD !!!!

Being mean to other people is never cool, even if you are on your period. If you are feeling crabby while menstruating, one of the best things you can do is tell your family or your partner that you need a bit of space right now. Take a walk or go to your room and read a book. Spend some time checking out ways you can improve yourself, your health, and your lifestyle. In fact, having your period is the best excuse available to spend time thinking about your life and how you can make things better, not worse.

You’re Too Into Your Exercise Routine

Hitting the gym even though you’re exhausted from your workout the day before? Jokingly say you live at the gym, but it’s actually kinda true? Over-exercising , as well as rapid weight loss or suffering from an eating disorder, can all cause your period to disappear, particularly if your BMI drops below 19 or 18, says Dr. Dweck. Thankfully, “simply cutting down on exercise or gaining a couple pounds will get your BMI up a bit, and you’ll get your period,” she says. What you don’t want to do is go without a period for more than a year , which can put you at risk for bone loss and osteoporosis.

How To Not Have A Period

The beach vacation you have been looking forward to for months. The 22 hour plane ride to Tokyo. Your honeymoon. What do these things have in common? They never fail to fall during your period. Surely, if we can put a man on the moon, then we can get rid of periods? You wonder in frustration, as you pack extra sanitary gear in your bag. The answer is yes. If you are extra nice to your neighborhood gynecologist, they can likely help you with your period predicament.

The menstrual cycle is a result of a delicate hormonal dance. Estrogen coaxes the ovary to make an egg and prompts the lining of the uterus to thicken. After the egg is released, progesterone halts the growth of the lining, and the uterus waits for the arrival of an embryo. When no embryo arrives, progesterone production stops its this lack of progesterone that triggers the vacation-ruining period. Altering these dance steps with some additional hormones can usually result in a delay in the cycle until a more opportune time.

If you looking to get rid of your periods for the longer term, there are other options:

I know that cycles are natural, but sometimes you may not want to experience this all natural phenomena while on the beach in Hawaii. If you find yourself in an occasional bind and want to delay your cycle, talk to your gynecologist and they may be able to help. Or, if you need a longer term solution, then an IUD, ablation, or extended regimen pill may be a good option.

Do Proper Type And Intensity Of Exercise

If you are a person who has period irregularities, then light to moderate exercise can really be helpful. Daily exercise can be really helpful to keep the periods on track.

On the other hand, too much of vigorous exercise can disrupt normal menstrual rhythm. Many athletes who indulge in extremely strenuous exercise activities from a very young age, face multiple hormonal issues and hence have disrupted menstrual rhythm.

So, limiting the exercise at proper levels as well as performing the right type of exercise can be beneficial in bringing periods faster.

Why You Lost Your Period

Signs of Abnormal or Unusual Period Cramps

Periods are largely regulated by hormones. So, if theres a hormone issue, its expected youll see changes in your period or miss your period altogether. This can be referred to as hypothalamic amenorrhea. Meaning, the hypothalamus stops releasing hormones responsible for starting the menstrual cycle which in turn leads to missed periods.

Obviously if youre pregnant, breastfeeding or in menopause, youll miss out on your monthly visitor, but what if youre not in that category and youre still not getting your period? There isnt a simple answer to this question, which is why weve put together a bunch of reasons why you might not be getting your period.

Don’t Use A Hot Water Bottle

A trusty hot water bottle is one of the first things we reach for when we’re cramping, but it could be making things worse. “Using a hot water bottle can damage the fascia of your body – the connective tissue which holds your muscles in place and helps your skin repair itself,” says period care brand BeYou. “Holding a hot water bottle against the fascia makes it softer and then when it cools down, it hardens. This means next time youll need to use more heat to relieve cramps.” A nifty alternative is period patches, which soothe pain without using heat.

How To Never Have Your Period Again

When it comes to monthly cycles, Im one of those women who was born lucky: four-day panty-liner periods and the occasional little backache that felt like an excuse to pamper myself with a warm bath or cup of teaor a few more chocolate chips. Thats it.

I thought it was that way for everyone until two things got me to start asking questions: 1) my husband and I and our two daughters made a trip to Africa, where I got a glimpse of the things desperate moms do to manage their fertility and 2) my daughters hit their mid-teens. I decided I wanted to understand more about womens bodies and especially about long-acting reversible contraceptives that Id heard could change the pregnancy risk from 1 in 12 each year on the Pill to less than 1 in 700 on the most effective method available.

I started reading and initiating conversations about contraception. One unexpected thing that came back at me was stories about periods: A young teacher had to excuse herself from the classroom so she could throw up because her periods made her nauseous a neighbor had such heavy bleeding that it made her dangerously anemic a friend had cramps that were as intense as early labor. Another woman went to buy groceries for her kids and had to change her tampon and pad twice just to get out of the store!

Who knew?!

Here are a few facts about women and periods from my earlier piece, A Brief History of Your Period and Why You Dont Have to Have It:

Contraception And Cycle Regulation In Your Forties

How to Stop Your Period! Easily Stop Your Period With This Method

If you’re in your forties, this one is for you. Maybe you aren’t having kids or maybe you’ve had them already. Maybe you’ve had a hot flash or two, or your period is a little irregular these days. Maybe not. Either way, menopause is still at least a few years away.

If you’re like other women in this stage of life, you might wonder about your period. What’s the point? Do you still need it? What are your options now that pregnancy is not part of your plans? We talked to Lisa Bayer, M.D., M.P.H., OB-GYN and contraception expert at the OHSU Center for Women’s Health, to find out.

The headline is that there are two things to keep on your radar: contraception, and regulating your menstrual cycle.

Contraception

“Many women think they can’t get pregnant in their late forties,” says Dr. Bayer. “But as long as you’re ovulating, even if it’s irregular, you can get pregnant.”

Dr. Bayer emphasizes that all the contraceptive methods available to women in their twenties and thirties are still options for most women in their forties. The key is to talk to your provider, who can help you choose the right method for you.

“Age alone doesn’t change anything. If your blood pressure and cholesterol are normal, you don’t smoke, and you aren’t at risk for blood clots, there’s no reason you can’t keep using the pill, patch or ring you’ve used in the past,” Dr. Bayer says.

Regulating your Cycle

When you’re not planning a pregnancy in the future, you may think your period is pointless. You’re right.

Warm Compress Or Bath

A warm bath can do wonders for relaxing tight muscles and relieving emotional stress. Perhaps this is the reason for anecdotal reports that this can help to bring on your period.

Try adding some relaxing scented oil to a bath for added effect. You could also try using a warm compress such as a hot water bottle by applying it to the abdomen.

The heat isnt only relaxing. It may also increase blood flow to the area, thus gently accelerating the menstrual cycle.

Causes Of A Missed Period

Often there is nothing to worry about when periods stop, and no serious cause. There are certain times when it is normal not to have periods. These include:

  • Before puberty. Girls start to go through puberty from around the age of 9 years and their periods start a year or two later. Up until that point girls do not have periods.
  • During pregnancy. If you are pregnant, your periods will normally stop until after the baby is born.
  • During breastfeeding. If you are fully breastfeeding, you will normally not have a period until you stop. You may find you have a bleed if you drop a feed, or start to breastfeed less.
  • After menopause. The menopause is the time in your life when your ovaries stop producing eggs and you stop having periods. The average menopause is around the age of 51. You will be classed as having gone through the menopause a year after your last period. However, it is extremely common for your periods to become less regular in the years leading up to the menopause. See the separate leaflet called Menopause for more details.
  • If you are using certain types of contraception. Some types of contraception may stop periods. They do not do so in all women however, it is normal not to have periods if you are using:

Don’t Skip Meals Or Fast

If youre an intermittent faster, its important to give fasting a break during your period, says Kelly Mulhall, nutritional therapist and founder of hormone balancing programme The Natural Balance. For many women, especially those that have heavy periods and experience a lot of blood loss, energy levels can drop when menstruating due to the loss of iron which transports oxygenated blood around the body. In order to ensure energy and blood sugar levels don’t drop, it’s best to get three proper meals a day, two litres of water and snack on some fruit if energy is low.

Reasons Your Period Is Late

During your usual morning routine, you open your cabinet, spot a box of tampons in the back, and you suddenly realize youre late. When was my last period? you think as you try to remember the last time you needed to reach for that box. Panic then takes over as your mind shoots straight to pregnancy.

While being pregnant is a possible reason for a missed period, there may be factors related to your health or lifestyle that are causing the delay, notes Shelley White-Corey, clinical assistant professor at the Texas A& M Health Science Center College of Nursing and a womens health nurse practitioner.

Breastfeeding

Your period may not make an appearance after your baby is born, but dont be alarmed! If you are breastfeeding your little one, a lack of periods is completely normal. Referred to as lactational amenorrhea, this is a phase that disrupts the rhythm of your menstrual cycle. After a few months, your monthly period should be right back on track.

Weight loss or weight gain

Whether youre overweight or underweight, any change in pounds can affect your monthly cycle. Common health problems linked to weight and irregular menstruation include eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, and uncontrolled diabetes. If you suspect this might be an issue for you, see your health care provider right away.

No Period For Three Months: Is This Normal

Not having your period for three months or more is known as secondary amenorrhea. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Natural causes of an absence of menstruation for three months include perimenopause, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Certain lifestyle factors like stress and excessive exercise may also cause it. Furthermore, having either excessive or low body fat can also cause a missed period. Tumors on the pituitary gland or a hypoactive/hyperactive thyroid gland can also lead to hormonal imbalances and trigger secondary amenorrhea. Low levels of estrogen or high levels of testosterone can also result in a missed period.

Genetic disorders such as Swyer syndrome and Turner syndrome result in a lack of menstruation without proper hormone replacement therapy. Some people experience a missed period because of medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, or chemotherapy drugs. You could also notice no period for three months or more if you have just stopped taking birth control pills.

Physical issues like problems in your reproductive organs could also cause delayed or missed periods.

Eating And Drinking Differently

All About Getting Your Period
  • 1Drink plenty of water. Being dehydrated during your period can contribute to bloating and other unpleasant PMS symptoms. Try to drink more water than usual during your period to combat these symptoms.
  • Cut down on caffeine, alcohol, and sodium while on your period, as these things dehydrate the body. If you do consume these goods, make up for it by drinking even more water.
  • 2Drink more tea. Trying to fight that caffeine craving and staying away from soda and coffee? Turn to tea. Not only will it keep you going, but research says it’s good for cramps, too.XResearch source
  • Tea is the next best thing to water. If you can’t drink water, this should be your go-to. In addition to keeping you hydrated, drinking tea has also been linked to fighting cancer, heart disease, and diabetes encouraging weight loss lowering cholesterol and bringing about mental alertness.XResearch source
  • 3Get more vitamin C. Getting a lot of vitamin C can starve the uterus of progesterone, which in turn breaks down the uterine walls. All of these can lead to a more accelerated period, making it a thing of the past sooner.XResearch source Here’s a short list of foods that have ample quantities of vitamin C:XResearch source
