The main reason we make love is that it feels good. What if we told you that sex during your period can actually be more fun? This can happen while youre spotting or on your period.

Avoid Shower Gels Douches And Fragrant Soaps

The vagina is self-cleaning with the help of its natural discharge. Bacteria called lactobacilli help keep the vagina’s pH balance at its normal low level , which also prevents the growth of other organisms. But if the pH of the vagina increases it gets less acidic the quality or amount of lactobacilli can fall and other bacteria can multiply and lead to infections including thrush.

The vagina cleans itself and doesnt need any internal cleaning, even during your period, Dr Mitra says. The vulva also doesnt need anything more than plain water, and I particularly detest all of the fanny washes on the shelves because theyre just unnecessary and can actually make smells and irritation worse.

Menstrual Hygiene Tips For Every Woman

May 17, 2017

Whether youve recently started menstruating or youve had your monthly cycle for many years, managing the downsides of your period are important.

While on your period, proper hygiene can help you stay clean and healthy, and avoid embarrassment, shares Dr. Caroline Dustin, an OBGYN with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group.

She offers 5 easy ways to maintain hygiene during that time of the month.

  • Choose the right feminine products. There are many more out there than you think, and it is good to try them out to see which one works best for you, says Dr. Dustin. Remember to change whichever product you use often enough to promote cleanliness and health down there. If you prefer pads, Dr. Dustin suggests switching to a cloth or cotton pad. You may have to change it more often, but cotton pads are usually more hygienic and cause less odor because they do not trap the blood, says Dr. Dustin. Find the right menstrual products for you.
  • Dont overthink your soap. There are a lot of feminine cleansing products out there, and most of them are unnecessary, costly and even harmful, warns Dr. Dustin. Plain old unscented soap and water is best.
  • If you notice that the scent does not seem to decrease after these steps, try using a menstrual cup. If you are used to using tampons or pads, it may take a while to get used to them, says Dr. Dustin. They cause less odor than pads and tampons, are reusable and are more environmentally friendly.

Why Is It Important To Induce Menstruation

It is not rare that women and girls for more comfortable holiday use hormone therapy to accelerate the menstrual cycle. If you are expecting some important event or you just paid holidays right when your period should come, and when you could not enjoy quite free, you can try some inducing period tricks.

Perhaps the best way to regulate the menstrual cycle is starting to take birth control pills. But, for this, you should talk to your doctor, who will recommend the most appropriate for your situation. The pill regulates the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body. These pills are often prescribed to women under 35 and can improve other problems like acne.

You should also keep in mind that the weight you have can affect your period: overweight makes you produce more estrogen, which prevents ovulation. Therefore, losing weight is an excellent way to regulate period cycles. There is also the other extreme: losing too much weight or being below ideal weight can provoke amenorrhea or lack of menstruation.

But before you decide to accelerate menstruation in any way, make a pregnancy test for early detection of pregnancy, as many things below may negatively affect pregnancy and cause tragic consequences. Therefore, if there is any chance that you are pregnant, do not attempt to accelerate the period.

Only one fact remains constant: We are still learning new things about our bodies and the mysteries of our period.

Recent studies on menstruating women have revealed a number of interesting facts. Firstly, it is quite normal for us to be in the mood for loving while we are bleeding. This is because the hormone that lowers the libido, progesterone, is at an all time low while we are bleeding. We also have a harder time concentrating when taking a test while on our period. Go figure, right?

The average woman in the United States menstruates about 450 times in her lifetime. This is a huge increase from the 50 periods our prehistoric ancestors experienced, or the roughly 150 periods experienced by modern women in agricultural societies outside of the U.S. We do a lot of bleeding and have a lot of time to kick back and pamper ourselves, so make every period count for something by finding what you can and can not do while you are getting a visit from dear Aunt Flo.
