I Took A Plan B And My Period Is Late

Long Term Or Extreme Stress

Period Update: Missed Period, Pregnancy Test and Plan B | How late was my period?

Whether long-term or extreme, stress can disrupt the region of the brain that regulates reproductive hormones. Ovulation and periods may halt as a result of this.

It might throw your entire cycle off if you have too much stress or illness right before ovulation. If youre nursing and your cycle has just begun again, you should expect irregular periods for a while your body adjusts. It might be tough to tell when your menstruation is late because of this.

When the source of the stress is removed, or the person learns coping techniques to deal with it, the persons normal cycle may resume.

Hello, Anon.

If your results are negative, there is nothing to do but wait for your cycle to sort itself out.

Okay so I just posted a bit ago, hereâs MY follow up. I posted about my second period being late after my boyfriend and my condom broke so spooky stuff. This would be 10 Days late but I FINALLY got it this afternoon. Plan b really does mess up your cycle, first period I was a full 2 week late, now Iâm 10 Days late. But all in all, Iâm glad this resource is out there and I am BEYOND glad that it worked for me. And for the record, I had cramping and sore nips and bloating for weeks so I was really scared but donât worry, those hormones can mess with you beyond belief. Hope this helps someone!

How The Emergency Contraception Pill Works

The EC pill is the method you reach for after having unplanned sex when you do not have protection. Protection means taking a regular contraception method like daily pills, implants, injections, or using a condom before sex.

Currently, after unprotected intercourse, we have two main methods for preventing an unplanned pregnancy – the emergency pills or the copper IUD.

The Copper IUD or Copper coil is a small device that an experienced health provider fits inside your womb in the clinic.

It is the most effective emergency birth control method and needs to be fitted within five days of unplanned sex or five days of ovulation.

But if you can’t get the Copper coil, the emergency contraception pill is your next best bet.

I took plan b Sept 26th, got my period when i should have on Oct 6th…it was a normal period. My husband and I had unprotected sex a couple times since my last period and i just tested positive for pregnancy. Is there any way i am pregnant from the unprotected sex i had before i took plan b or is it from the most recent unprotected sex?

We have had other people ask this question here as well. From the Plan B FAQ:”Will I experience any side effects from Plan B® One-Step?

When used as directed, Plan B® One-Step is safe and effective. Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness and breast tenderness. Some women may have changes in their period, a heavier or lighter next period, or a period that is early or late. If your period is more than a week late, you may be pregnant. If you have severe abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical attention.”

The dose of hormones in emergency contraception can change your cycle for a couple of months. But following it with more unprotected sex means you could be pregnant. If I read you right, you used emergency contraception but then had more unprotected sex? So your late period could be pregnancy or from the Plan B.

I hope this answered your question.

Plan B Missed Period Negative Pregnancy Test

Missed period and negative pregnancy test might be related or might not be. The only way to be sure about this is to perform a test.

Pregnancy tests work by identifying the hormone hCG , which is produced when you become pregnant and rises throughout the first few months of your pregnancy.

But sometimes, a test may not detect enough hCG to become positive if you test too early. Even if youre pregnant, you can get a negative result if you test before your expected period.

Also, you might miss your period even when you are not pregnant.

So, its very important for you to know about the causes of negative pregnancy test and missed periods. The next segment of the article will enlighten you about this.

What If You Take Plan B Or Another Morning After Pill Anyway

Taking a morning after pill during ovulation wont harm your body. But you may still become pregnant.

Thats because pills, like Plan B, can *delay* ovulation to prevent pregnancy. But if youre already ovulating, an egg has already been released.

And sperm which can live in your body for up to 6 days is more likely to reach it.

In fact, concluded that emergency contraceptive pills containing levonorgestrel, like Plan B, are ineffective when taken on the day of ovulation or after.

If youre not sure where you are in your cycle and the morning-after pill is your only option, taking it may be worthwhile. After all, you might have not ovulated yet, and it could make a difference.

Worth mentioning: Some morning-after pills are less effective for people who weigh more than 155 pounds, so keep that in mind as you decide which emergency contraceptive option is best for you.

If youre able to, reach out to a doctor or other healthcare professional for help. Your local clinic or Planned Parenthood may be able to offer advice and provide you with the pill.

Changes In The Menstrual Cycle

In a clinical trial, 31% of participants experienced some change in their menstrual cycle after taking Plan B, but the potential menstrual changes are varied. Plan B may cause some women to experience heavier or lighter menstrual bleeding compared to their regular periods.

After taking Plan B, some women get their period sooner than expected, while others get it later. However, clinical trial data suggest most women will get their period within two days to one week of the anticipated time. Women who take Plan B and experience a delay in their period greater than one week are recommended to take a pregnancy test.

During your menstrual cycle, the time at which Plan B is taken can affect how your menstruation changes.

  • Some studies suggest that taking Plan B early on in your menstrual cycle can increase the likelihood of spotting before menstruation begins and can sometimes cause the next period to be shorter than usual.
  • When Plan B is taken later in your menstrual cycle, it may not affect period length, or it may be more likely to result in prolonged menstrualbleeding.

What Happens After I Take It

How late can your period be after taking Plan B?

  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Occasional spotting for 1-3 days

Your period should start within 21 days after taking Plan B. If your period is late by more than 1 week, pregnancy testing and follow-up with your health care provider are recommended.
