What Are The Most Fertile Days After Your Period
You are most fertile the day before ovulation and the day of ovulation. According to Dr. Hanh Cotrell from IVF Michigan, “Your fertile window is about a week prior to anticipated ovulation.” So if you are trying to conceive, she recommends having sex every day to every other day during that week to give you the highest chance of pregnancy. You are not likely to get pregnant right after your period, although it can happen if you have an abnormally short menstrual cycle, in which ovulation could happen just a few days after your period ends.

Length Of The Luteal Phase
The length of your luteal phase, or post-ovulatory phase, is much more predictable. Once you ovulate, your luteal phase wont be any longer than 16 days . The luteal phase can vary from 10 16 days in length, but is typically around 2 weeks.
This means, once you confirm ovulation, you will know that your next period will arrive within the next 16 days .Another great benefit of tracking ovulation an approximately two week notice of when your next period will arrive!

I Have Irregular Periods When Will I Ovulate
Mr Faris advises that the ovulation date in this case could vary, so it would be useful to try regularly after the period and not to rely on the ovulation kits.
This is because, as Dr Matthew Prior says, Having regular periods is the best sign of ovulation. In fact, fertility specialists may not even advise bloods to check if ovulation has happened because regular cycles are a sure sign of ovulation.

Many women use ovulation predictor kits, which identify the date of ovulation 12 to 24 hours in advance by looking at levels of luteinizing hormone, or LH, the last of the hormones to hit its peak before ovulation. The saliva and chloride ion surge tests have not been well studied and tend to be used much less frequently.

On average, a womans cycle normally is between 28-32 days, but some women may have much shorter or much longer cycles. Ovulation is the moment an ovary releases an egg.
As soon as an ovary releases an egg, the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle begins. The luteal phase ends with a menstrual period unless pregnancy occurs.
Women will not experience any pregnancy symptoms during the earliest part of the luteal phase. This is because pregnancy does not occur until the fertilized egg implants into the wall of the uterus.
During the luteal phase, the body produces more progesterone, which is a hormone that helps sustain an early pregnancy. The levels of progesterone peak at 68 days after ovulation, even when a woman does not become pregnant.
Progesterone levels can affect a womans mood and body this means that after a week or so, they may experience similar symptoms in early pregnancy as they do before a period.
When a fertilized egg reaches the uterus, it implants itself into the wall of the uterus. This is called implantation and marks the start of pregnancy. Implantation typically happens 612 days after fertilization.
This is the time when women may begin to experience pregnancy symptoms, including:

- headaches and muscle aches

2. The Luteal Phase from ovulation to the start of the next menstruation we are in the luteal phase .

While controversial in some circles, there is some science behind timing intercourse to sway a boy or girl baby. Under a microscope, male sperm tend to swim faster but also die sooner female sperm do the opposite . Having sex two to four days before you ovulate could slightly increase your odds for having a baby girl. As a side note: I had sex on the day of ovulation when I got pregnant with my son and three days before ovulation when I got pregnant with my daughter, so it did work for me. With my third child, I didnt think too much about it, but did end up having a girl. When I think back to when we had sex, sure enough, it was a few days before I typically ovulate.

Not everybody who gets a period identifies as a girl or woman. Transgender men and genderqueer people who have uteruses, vaginas, fallopian tubes, and ovaries also get their periods.

How Long Should You Wait
Keeping in mind that your body is constantly changing, its pretty much impossible to ever be 100 percent safe when it comes to avoiding pregnancy, if youre having unprotected sex.
Your menstrual cycle starts on the first day of your period, and ends on the last day before your next period starts. If you have a clockwork menstrual cycle of 28 days, you are at your safest but not totally in the clear around one week or so after you ovulate. Keep in mind that sperm can continue to live in your body, so if youve had unprotected sex, this sort-of-safe window may change.
If your periods are even the slightest bit irregular, so is your fertile window. And keep in mind that your cycle can change at any time, without giving you a heads up in advance.
If Youre Trying To Get Pregnant
If youre trying to get pregnant, pinpointing ovulation is a vital first step. If youve been dutifully baby dancing mid-cycle and havent yet gotten pregnant, you may even wonder if you have more irregular ovulation and would benefit from sex during or right after your period.
There are several ways you can try to figure out your ovulation patterns. They include:
At-home ovulation predictor kits. These tests work by detecting LH , which surges 12 days before ovulation takes place. So these kits can tell you when youre going to ovulate, but they cant tell you when ovulation has taken place.
Progesterone test kits. Some women who have irregular periods, such as those with PCOS, find that using a kit that detects progesterone the hormone released right after ovulation is helpful to use in addition to a standard ovulation kit. Determining whether or not your body produced progesterone will help you to know if you ovulated or not.
Fertility apps.Ovulation-tracking apps compile a monthly record of multiple factors, such as basal body temperature and cervical mucus. They can help women with regular periods determine when theyre ovulating. We wish we could put this in neon flashing lights, though: These apps can help you get pregnant, but theyre not birth control and shouldnt be used to prevent pregnancy.
