Insomnia In Early Pregnancy Before Missed Period

Early Signs You’re Pregnant Before A Missed Period

Early pregnancy symptoms before missed period

Early pregnancy symptoms can overlap with common body changes, such as PMS. Here’s how to tell the difference.

Your menstrual cycle is your body’s monthly preparation for pregnancy — if you get pregnant, the lining in your uterus has a job to do and you won’t experience any typical menstrual bleeding. But while a missed period is many people’s first signal that they’re pregnant, it often isn’t the first clue your body gives you.

In the first weeks of pregnancy , the body starts producing a lot of hormones that can affect you physically and mentally. In addition to amping up its regular production of progesterone and estrogen, your body starts producing new ones, including human placental lactogen and human chorionic gonadotropin .

While your body is in hormonal overdrive during early pregnancy, you may feel some side effects. But if hormones are to blame, how do you tell if it’s PMS, ovulation symptoms or something else completely? Below, we outline some signals you might notice from your body during early pregnancy, before you even take a pregnancy test.

What Are Five Common Signs Of Pregnancy

There are several signs of early pregnancy that you could experience. Not everyone will have all of these symptoms, and some women may not feel any of these things. Pregnancy symptoms throughout the entire pregnancy can vary dramatically between women. Its important not to compare your pregnancy to someone elses.

Common early pregnancy symptoms can include:

Heightened Basal Body Temperature

Many woman may use a basal thermometer to track their first morning temperature for ovulation, but what they may not know is that it can also be used to track pregnancy. For those unfamiliar as to what basal body temperature is, it refers to is the lowest body temperature attained during rest. Basal body temperature is usually estimated by a temperature measurement immediately after awakening and before actually getting out of bed, or performing any type of physical activity.

Just after conception, a womans basal body temperature will rise to about one degree higher than norma, and it will stay elevated throughout her entire pregnancy. Though not a telltale sign of pregnancy , it could give a woman some advance knowledge as to whether she is pregnant before actually receiving a positive on a home pregnancy test.

Unusual Early Pregnancy Signs & Symptoms Before A Missed Period

Simply tune into your body and see if any of these unusual early signs of pregnancy are something that youre experiencing. You may not feel them all day, every day, but if you experience them at all, this is how you can tell youre pregnant without a test.

These signs are not definitive of early pregnancy. Some women dont experience any symptoms until well after they know their pregnant. So if youre not feeling any of these symptoms, dont take it as a sign that youre not pregnant either.

Also they may be very similar to what you experience every month before menstruation . Therefore, its best to look at these signs cautiously and dont feel to sure about the pregnancy unless your test gives you a positive.

1. Prominent blue veins on boobs and other breast changes

Pregnancy hormones can often make boobs feel sore and swollen. However, breast soreness prior to a period is very normal and might not sound any alarms. The key is to see if they feel any differently, like heavier or fuller, for example.

Even if that doesnt give things away, one thing will: obvious blue veins on your breasts. Veins become very prominent on your breasts during pregnancy due to the increased blood volume throughout your whole body.

2. Feeling weird

3. Pains that are similar to your period

4. Strange sensations in your belly

If you feel sensations like pulling, pinching, or twitching inside your abdominal area, it could be your bodys way of congratulating you on your upcoming baby.

26. Gas

Light Bleeding Or Spotting

Implantation bleeding is the light vaginal bleeding that typically occurs about 10 to 14 days after conception. It shouldnt cause anything more than mild spotting, which you may notice in your underwear. Implantation bleeding can also be accompanied by mild cramps that resemble the cramps of menstruation.

If the bleeding is heavy or if the cramping is severe, contact a health care provider for advice.

Along with light bleeding, some people notice white, milky vaginal discharge. This is completely normal and is the result of increased development in the lining of the vagina. The discharge may continue throughout pregnancy and does not usually have any other symptoms. Seek a health care providers opinion if the discharge smells bad or is accompanied by itching. You may need to be treated for a bacterial or yeast infection.

Unusual Spotting Outside Your Period

Are you seeing light pink to brown spotting a week before your period? According to board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist Dr. Mark Trolice, “Vaginal spotting one week after ovulation could represent implantation.” Implantation bleeding occurs when the fertilized egg attaches itself to the lining of your uterus. This can cause some light bleeding or spotting due to the massive burrowing the embryo has to do to completely implant itself. Some of the lining of the uterus is sloughed off and passes through your cervix.

Spotting between periods is definitely more common than cramps between periods, so this can be harder for women to distinguish. Some get the spotting so close to their periods they just assume it is the start of their normal period. Normally, implantation spotting should not be heavy and should not last for more than three days. There are also other crucial signs to tell the difference between a regular period versus implantation bleeding. But it’s safe to say that if you arent used to spotting in between, and your period is not due for more than a few days, then it could be the result of conception and implantation!

Elevated Basal Body Temperature

Many women keep track of their cycles and fertility by charting and monitoring very slight temperature fluctuations using a sensitive thermometer. After ovulation the bodys basal temperature increases by one degree or so, which if sustained over a period of a few days shows a thermal shift or an elevated basal body temperature. If this temperature stays elevated even past when you were supposed to get your period, youre probably pregnant!

An continued, elevated basal body temperature is one of the more precise signs of early pregnancy.

How Does Pregnancy Affect Sleep

First signs of pregnancy before missed period

There are multiple reasons for insomnia during pregnancy, says Leah Hazard, an NHS midwife, author of the memoirHard Pushed: A Midwifes Story, and host of the podcast What The Midwife Said. “Sleep can be challenging in pregnancy for any number of reasons: the increasing discomfort of a growing bump, pelvic girdle pain, heartburn, nausea, increased frequency of urination and leg cramps can all play a part.”

As the pregnancy progresses, it can be hard to get comfortable, especially if the baby starts kicking in the night or is pressing on your bladder you may also need to get up to go to the bathroom more often during the night.

According to a study published in the journal, Sleep Science, many women experience sleep disorders during pregnancy, such as obstructive sleep apnea. This is particularly the case, says midwife Leah Hazard, for those who are already at risk . “Restless legs and leg cramps can also be an issue”, she adds. Mental and emotional issues – anxiety about the pregnancy or parenthood or restless dreams – all are additional causes of poor sleep.

How Early Do Pregnancy Symptoms Start

Women in the early stages of pregnancy may experience a number of different symptoms that may signal a pregnancy. While a missed menstrual period is often the characteristic sign of pregnancy, women who do not have regular menstrual cycles may not recognize that a menstrual period has been missed. In some cases, breast tenderness or other symptoms are the first sign of pregnancy. Still, other women may not experience any particular symptoms at all during early pregnancy and may not be aware of their condition.

A missed menstrual period is most often the first sign of pregnancy and is a common first-trimester symptom. Sometimes a woman who is pregnant may still experience some bleeding or spotting around the time of the expected period, typically 6 to 12 days after conception. When it occurs, this so-called “implantation bleeding” is generally not as heavy or long as a regular menstrual period. This small amount of bleeding that happens at the time of the expected menstrual period occurs because the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall. This is referred to as implantation bleeding.

The experience of pregnancy symptoms is highly individualized and differs among women. In fact, a woman may experience different symptoms in a second or subsequent pregnancy than she did in her first pregnancy.
