How Long After Discharge Is Your Period

How Does Ovulation Work

How long after white discharge is your period?

During the first day of your period, which is the first day of your menstrual cycle, the level of follicle stimulating hormone is high. This FSH hormone will stimulate the pituitary gland to increase secretion of estrogen hormone.

Estrogen hormone will continue to rise and stimulate the maturation of the follicles. High estrogen hormone will cause proliferation of the lining covering the uterus and development of one follicle . At this point you will notice your discharge is now creamy white and increasingly gets watery and egg white as you get closer to ovulation.

This high level of estrogen will cause a surge of Luteinizing hormone . Ovulation occurs after 24 to 36 hours after this surge or 12 hours after the peak of LH surge.

The dominant follicle will then release the egg into fallopian tubes where the sperm will fertilize the ovum. This release of egg or ovum is called ovulation.

Watery Egg White Discharge After Period

Watery egg white discharge after period gets its color from the fact that it is a combination of secretions, vaginal epithelium cells, microorganisms, lymphatic transudates, and cervical mucus, which are produced by the sebaceous glands, and sweat.

This particular type of clear discharge is very common in women who have been able to maintain a good balance between the yeast and good bacteria in their vagina. The clear discharge is vital because it carries out the following roles:

  • Protects the vagina against infections
  • Flushes bacteria and dead cells from your body
  • Maintains vaginal hygiene by ensuring that it remains healthy and clean at all times

What Is Fertile Discharge

Fertile discharge is thin, clear or white, and slippery, much the same as an egg white. This type of discharge signals that ovulation is approaching.

Fertile cervical fluid helps sperm move up the cervix to fertilize an egg. It also keeps the sperm healthy during the journey.

People usually notice fertile discharge a few days before ovulation. The discharge may become wetter and more slippery over several days. After ovulation, the amount of discharge usually decreases.

A ripening egg grows inside an enclosure, called a follicle, in the uterus. The follicle grows and produces estrogen. When the follicle ruptures, the body ovulates, releasing an egg.

The estrogen that the follicle produces softens the cervix and opens it slightly. Estrogen also changes the texture of cervical fluid, making it more able to support fertility.

It takes around 6 months or 1 year before ovulation and 14 days before the normal menstrual cycle. Its due to the increased presence of hormones and progesterone in the menstrual cycle.

Vaginal secretion changes throughout the menstrual cycle and the differences can be easily noticeable at each stage of your monthly cycle, including :

1. During ovulation At ovulation, the discharge is typically watery, clear, and thin. Before ovulation, more discharge occurs which is up to 30 times the regular amount.

2. After ovulation Due to a higher amount of progesterone, the discharge appears white, thick, and sticky. This may last up to 14 days but will be of less amount than there was at ovulation.

3. Just before periods The color of the discharge before periods is white with a yellowish tint.
